Remaining completely in the Kansas City metropolitan area, it connects Leavenworth to Kansas City. ==Route description== K-5 begins at US-73/K-7 in Leavenworth, from where it heads southeast. From here to Interstate 435, it is part of a scenic route for travelers. In the Lansing area, it runs along N 8th Street. After leaving Lansing, K-5 follows Wolcott Drive. Later, K-5 merges onto southbound Interstate 435, splitting off at the second exit, onto Leavenworth Road. K-5 follows Leavenworth Road east until it meets Interstate 635 northbound. It then splits off onto its own freeway alignment, which lasts for about until it turns onto Sunshine Road. It then ends at US-69 just south of the Fairfax Bridge. K-5's directions changed recently from west–east to north–south around 2010.
